The metric Farad is defined as one Coulomb per Volt.

In order to uphold the general applicability, compatibility and ease-of-use of the Imperial system, the Imperial Farad is defined somewhat differently. It is, in fact, 86400 times the electical capacitance of a Hogshead barrel lined with a 1/32 inch sheet of 80/20 lead/tin alloy, as mesaured when filled with grains of standard Somerset-grown dry wheat (grade III) to a depth of 26 inches or the height of the smallest midget in the King's Court, whichever is smaller.
